1. Know where you are going
Reduce stress by knowing exactly where you are going and how long it will take
you to get there. If you are unfamiliar with the location of the company,
get directions and drive to the location before your interview. Be aware of any construction or detours and become familiar with
available parking areas.
2. Review the company background
Be familiar with the company products, clients and objectives via the website.
3. Review the company website
Review any press releases provided on the website so you may become
familiar with any recent events or upcoming projects noted on the website. If there is no website try to obtain any company
literature: brochures or periodical articles.
4. Be prepared to take notes
Bring a notepad, pens or pencils. Also bring a business card if you have one.
5. Dress appropriately
Do not wear sneakers, jeans or tee shirts. Males should wear a long sleeve dress shirt, neck tie, slacks, belt, and dress shoes. Men should remove earrings and visible piercings.
Females should wear a blouse, dress pants, and flat shoes or reasonable heels. Keep accessories and ear piercings to a minimum (one earring per ear).
All should remember to wear soft or neutral colors.
6. Bring copies of work
Carry at least two extra copies of your resume. Also provide
a portfolio of work, if you have one available. The employer may want to review
examples of your abilities
7. Be ready for questions
Review interview questions and practice answers. The
interviewer will most likely ask you these to better judge character. At the interviews end they may also allow you
to ask questions of your own- so have some ready.
8. Show enthusiasm
Showing enthusiasm and being motivated goes a long way.
It demonstrates the level of your interest in the company and in the
career field.
9. Use effective listening skills
Listen closely and do not interrupt the speaker or provide lengthy examples. Listen
to the exact question and provide a clear answer to it without getting off
topic
10. Close the interview smoothly
Thank the interviewer for their time and for considering you for the position. Finally, highlight your interest in the company
and the opportunity that is available.
